Open topic for fans of Paulo Coelho's books, ideas, messages, and practices. Your most enjoyed of the above. Criticism is also welcome.
I am i big fan of Coelho having read five of his books to date, very much enjoying each of them and always taking some sort of knowledge from them. Either very obvious information or tools, or knowledge that silently manifests itself to be displayed later, to my supprise in most cases.
Big up Paulo Coelho!

Re: Paulo Coelho
Wed, January 31, 2007 - 10:28 AMi read "the alchemist" only recently. i liked it a lot. it read like a children's book and very much reminded me of the structure of "the little prince" (perhaps my all-time favorite book) -

Re: Paulo Coelho
Fri, February 2, 2007 - 3:25 AMIs that The Little Prince by Antoine Saint Exupery? Just asking because i've never heard of anyone else who knows this book.

Re: Paulo Coelho
Sat, February 3, 2007 - 9:35 AMI too have recently read "The Alchemist." I've also read "The Little Prince."
One thing that strikes me about these books is that they have similar messages as found in many others reads. They reinforce the message of the cosmos. All thoughts have consequences.
An interesting passage: "When you want something, the whole universe lines up to help you get it."
A thought sending out a ripple, how profound. -

Sat, February 3, 2007 - 4:06 PMWhen I read the alchemist a few years ago I was so captivated by its messages that I highlighted and then later copied out all my favourite quotes from the book! They're online here if anyone wants to read them:

Another book along the same lines as the alchemist and the little prince is Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach.

Sat, February 3, 2007 - 4:08 PMHi James
I've only read the Alchemist but it was so good I want to know what other books by Coelho I should read? Are they all about self actualization or other subjects? Which would you recommend as the next read after the Alchemist?

Re: Paulo Coelho
Sun, February 4, 2007 - 7:34 PMHi Bill, in essence all his books seem to revolve around an actualization and heightening of awareness. I would suggest The Pilgrimage his third book and The Valkyries, both are amazing. There are over ten titles of his i havent read so there my be ones out there that are "better". I would strongly suggest following your intuition while choosing one of his books.
hope i could be of help Bill

Sat, February 3, 2007 - 6:31 PMHi all..
I read "The alchemist" last year. Had an odd reaction-none at all. I usually love inspirational books, but I suppose after having read many, this one didn't give me that warm, fuzzy feeling. I liked the story, but it didn't add anything....

Re: Paulo Coelho
Sun, February 4, 2007 - 7:52 PMThe Alchemist was the third Coelho book i read and probably my least favorite all together, though i really engoyed it. Jenniannie i would suggest reading eleven minutes, it is a story of sex and sexuality, sacred sex, sex in the context of love, and erotic sex. it is a 2003 book, a quick read and i feel a lot can be learned about it. Essentially it is a true story of a Brazillian woman who moves to Switzerland and gets caught up in the sex trade. The book takes excerpts from the story/diary written by main character. Really well written in my opinion.
Also i just read for the Alchemist fans out there that Lawrance Fishbourne is producing an Alchmist movie at the moment. neat-o -

Tue, February 13, 2007 - 11:17 AMThe Valkyries. It was my first Coelho read and i think my favorite, but as you asked for, it's only a suggestion.

Re: Paulo Coelho
Tue, February 20, 2007 - 12:42 PMI've read about 11 or 12 of his books. I think I'm only missing one or two. I suggest reading them in order they come out in. Only because in his newer works he makes a lot of sublte references to his olders ones that you might otherwise miss.
