I just finished the first two of the four books in the series, Shadow of the Torturer and Claw of Concilliator. They are extremely good sci-fi books. Wolfe drops you right into the middle of a very alien setting in the far, far future. He explains very little outright and a good deal of the backstory and setting has to be picked up as you go along which can make the early reading difficult but in the end makes for a very interesting read as you figure out what exactly is going on and the setting begins to make more sense and become less alien. It is very distopian so far and extremely well written.

Just finished the 3rd and 4th book. There is also a coda that I have not read. The books remained consistently good. The unreliableness of the narrator was starting to get to me a bit as by the end, but it wasn't to bad and the story is excellent. I know I missed a lot the first time through and definately plan to re-read them.
