Has anyone read any of his books and /or want to discuss anything about them?

I'm of mixed opinion about Mr.Egan's work myself.

I'm reading Lasso The Wind about the 'New West' in America etc. A travelogue sort of thing with various cities and the (long) histories of these cities and then where they're at today kinda mixed in and contrasted and compared.

He has some great insights...and the subjects are definitely interesting to me.

But I just have an aversion to rivers that 'dance' out of mountains and all that flowery language (rivers as 'ribbons of life'?) that I found esp in the forward of this last one. It just gets in the way ...having to re-read every sentence three times to decipher what the heck this guy is saying .

And it seemed, if I'm remembering correctly, that The Good Rain was the same.
I didn't even finish that one it wandered so far astray down meandering side alleys.

This one is better...or seems so to me.
But, maybe it's just 'where I'm at' in my life?
Who knows...anyone?

Has anyone read this guys work?
