This is the one book that I have read over and over. This is the book I gave to all my friends to borrow and never saw again. This is the one book I re-read the last 40 pages over again and again. This book truly pissed me off. And I re-read it again just to see if it could do it again. It did, every time. I haven't read it in about 7 years and I am due. The characters in this book are well developed. Bone, the main character, is angry. And rightfully so. Her step dad is a piece of shit and you think they mom is gonna pull through but well, you'll have to read it. I sobbed while reading this book. It's SO GOOD. And not in a light, everything is gonna work out kinda way. I am not a sucker for a happy ending. I do think I might have screamed out loud when I read it the first time! It's just infuriating! The movie was also excellent. I remember it came out on HBO first and then in the theatre and because of that it could not be nominated for any awards. The director was Anjelica Huston. She fought hard to keep in the scene with Bone and her step dad towards the end of the movie. She said it was pivotal in the book and had to remain in the movie. I say dive into this book.

I read this book years and years ago and can still vividly remember a lot of the details. It is an excruciating read, but extremely well written.

It's an autobiographical novel concerning a "white trash" girl molested by her step father. I haven't read much, because I know that the excruciating is right, but Allison writes like a sunnovabich, so I haven't discarded it.

I haven't seen it, but there's a movie version. This book was infuriating to read, but I too was enthralled and pulled in by the story.
