"Beschloss outlines how several occupants of the Oval Office—including Jackson, Lincoln, Roosevelt, FDR, Truman, Kennedy and Reagan—combined courage with wisdom to change the future of the country, notwithstanding the slings and arrows they earned." - From Amazon
I bought this book after John Stuart interviewed the author at the beginning of the year - it took awhile to get around to reading it.
Other than the section on Reagan (I'm NOT a Reagan fan), I thought it was very interesting. It was a pretty quick read if you like histories - Beschloss does a good job of moving things along and it wasn't as dry as some histories I've read - quotes from personal letters and recordings made it a little choppy in parts, but they were essential in order to present an accurate picture of events. I learned quite a few things - especially about Lincoln and FDR.
It certainly makes you think about the kind of person/type of character is best suited for the Presidency... I'll have a lot to think about this next election cycle.
