I am a big fan of Charles de Lint. I like his concept of that "sideways step into Faerie". Makes you wonder if what you're looking at is what is really there.

I was looking forward to MYSTERY OF GRACE. It was advertised as his first adult fiction in a while. I hate to say it, but I was disappointed.

While the concept of the book is intriguing, it seemed to be written more in the style of his young adult fiction. Most of his earlier work is thicker, meatier..a full meal, so to speak. This book seemed kind of like "soup" in comparison. It scratched the surface of things, didn't delve as deeply as his other books.

I really like Charles de Lint as well. I'm re-reading Memory and Dream which I remember loving the first time around. And The Onion Girl is my favorite de Lint book. I'll have to read this one : )

Memory and Dream is my favorite, followed by the various collections of Newford stories.

The Crow Girls, in all their permutations, and Jilly are my favorite characters.

When I suggest him to people I always tell them to read the Newford stories first. That gives a pretty good intro to the characters that show up in his novels.

In spite of the last book, he's still my favorite author.
