Better than I thought it was going to be - I'd gotten the impression that it was going to be more of a Romance novel sort of thing. I only got started reading it because it was on the Book Exchange shelf at work. I'm not sure how accurate the history was, but if it was, it was beautifully interwoven with the story. Unfortunately, I've gotten gun-shy with "historical fiction", not having any idea which is "historical" and which is "fiction" anymore. And it wasn't an entirely sappy ending! What a lovely surprise!

Sat, July 1, 2006 - 9:01 AMI'd wondered if there was a sequel. The ending of DoF just begged for it, really. Thanks. -

Sun, July 2, 2006 - 1:23 AMHave you read House of Spirits? This also kind of continues on the Del Valle family.
The three books make even more sense when read in sequence.

Fri, June 12, 2009 - 11:29 AMI just finished this one and it was great right up until the end. i had read "The House of The Spirits" and loved it, so i was really looking forward to "Daughter of Fortune". it was a very well told story, but ended too abruptly for me.

Re: Daughter of Fortune; Isabel Allende
Sat, June 13, 2009 - 12:23 PMI really liked daughter of fortune. For me, the prose were engaging, and it doesn't matter where the historic, and where the fiction intertwine.I love how she is able to create such a tragic figure, that is still enigmatic and individual. -
