Do you remember reading Moomin when you were little? Moomin papa, moomin mama and the moomin kids? and then there was this little brat with the pony tail who was always in a bad mood and bullying everybody and starting fights? And that field of strange swaying worms that followed you in the dark or something?
I just saw one part of the series advertised that looks interesting:

"Moominsummer Madness
A huge wave has crashed through the valley, flooding the Moomins out of their home! With their usual resilience, the Moomins and their friends move into the first house that comes bobbing along. It's strange-looking, like a big cave with curtains hanging on either side. And when the house bumps into dry land and Moomintroll and the Snork Maiden decide to spend the night on shore--then the adventure really begins. Moomintroll and the Snork Maiden get lost, and Moominpappa decides to write a play which they will perform in the house, in the hope that Moomintroll will hear about it and find his way home.
"Moominsummer Madness," the fourth in Tove Jansson's classic series of books about Moominvalley, is enchanting and full of exciting adventures and surprises, some of them odd even by Moomin standards!"

I never read Moomin books as a child but I found them when browsing on Amazon.
I bought the moomin books for my kids and we love them.
Growing up in Belgium my favourite books were Tiny and now my daughter uses the french translation, Martine, in her french class.

      Never heard of these..
      • Really, Bloke?
        Don't you recognise these?
Troll is a Nordic word and Moomin are the most famous trolls in Swedish children's literature and better known than the hobbit type trolls.

        English/Engelska

        Who's coming on our TV-screen?
        Ofcourse, it Moomin is!
        With velvet-nose and little tail,
the best troll that ever was!

It is Moomin! It is Moomin!

        In Moomin Valleys safe calm,
in Moomin houses, we see them live!
        A big family where everyone
        has velvet-nose and short legs!

Like Moomin! Like Moomin! Like Moomin! Like Moomin! Like Moomin! Like Moomin!

Another kids' book that is really good, especially for naughty little boys and confidence building is Maurice Sendak's "Where the wild things are"
I loved this one when I discovered it at an international bookstore and bought it together with a stuffed troll character toy. He had blue fur, cow's horns on his head, a wild almost human face with big long teeth, a tail and white human feet with thick toes. Adorable! ; )
I am really good at reading this book out loud.
Here is an exemple, read by someone else, showing the pictures:
