NO, I haven't read it yet, but I am very excited now that I have heard about it! But before I put my request in for a mother's day gift, has anyone here read it yet?
Justify my excitement?

Re: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Sun, May 3, 2009 - 5:43 AMNope. I heard about a while back on Wait, Wait, Don't tell me. I'm not a Jane Austen fan and I don't know if the addition of zombies would actually make it more readable, so I've been waiting to hear from others who have read it.

Tue, May 5, 2009 - 1:38 PMI have to wonder how it works legally/financially when you take someone else's work in its entirety and publish it with your own additions.
Also I want to keep this thread at the top until someone who's read the book finally responds!
I sent a copy to my brother for his birthday, and I'm still waiting to get a report back. -

Copyright does not last forever. For instanceIn New Zealand, copyright in literary, artistic, dramatic and musical works lasts for the lifetime of the creator, plus 50 years from the end of the year of death. -

Re: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Wed, May 6, 2009 - 4:26 AMYea, I think the maximum in the US is 70 years after the author's death. Austen died in 1817 and P&P is in the public domain. -

Re: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Sat, June 6, 2009 - 5:52 PMI just finished it.
I loved it.
I've never read anything by Jane Austen, so I can't compare the two. As a stand-alone novel, I thought it was great. There was humor and love and lots of cannibalism. I'm pretty sure more people died in this version that the original.
You should def. read it.

Re: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Mon, June 8, 2009 - 6:29 AMYeah! I was wondering how it was going to be. Pride and Prejudice is the book that got me started reading Jane Austen, and I love her. I also love zombies, so I've been wondering how it would turn out. Did the book seem really disjointed in places or did it flow nicely? -

Re: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Thu, June 11, 2009 - 5:59 AMI'm halfway through and I am surprised at how well it flows. I read the original (plus I admit to watching the A&E miniseries more than once) so when I first started I had the annoying habit of looking back to verify something that had been changed. (I didn't recall Mr. Bennet calling his wife a senseless old cur in the original). I finally got past that and just tried to enjoy it as something new and clever. I actually find myself laughing out loud.
I'm glad to hear someone who hasn't read Austen enjoyed it as well, because I'm thinking of loaning it to my brother next.

Re: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Thu, June 11, 2009 - 6:16 AMI saw the movie of "Pride and Prejudice" and also read the Jane Austen novel, or at least, most of the novel, and as far as I remember, noone dies in there at all. There is nothing even remotely related to cannibalism, and I can't begin to imagine how anyone would combine this novel with a zombie story.
Is this is how people make the young generation get interested in classical literature now? -

With a creative sense of humor and imagination.

Re: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Sun, June 14, 2009 - 11:55 PMI'm headed to Amazon to order this one right now. I'm a huge fan of reworking old favorites (ex. The Looking Glass Wars, etc) and this sounds like so much fun!
Certainly people take interest in the classics/poetry/authors for many reasons - sometimes even movies starring Johnny Depp! As mom to a teenager - I think any reason that motivates reading is a good one.....
