I truly loved this book. It is so well written, and the story in itself is fascinating. I learned a good deal from reading it. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it already.
Has anyone read his other book, Virgin Suicides? I would like to know your thoughts on it.

Tue, January 22, 2008 - 1:00 PMMiddlesex is one of my favorite books (was so sad when I realized I only had 20 pages left!). Virgin Suicides was good but not nearly as good as Middlesex. It's very atmospheric and you get a great sense of the time and place, but I didn't find it as compelling. I'd still recommend it though...but don't expect the same kind of storytelling.

i loved middlesex, haven't read virgin suicides. i put off reading middlesex for a while, because the subject matter didn't sound very interesting to me, but forced myself to start it while i was on a plane and ended up not being able to put it down. i've talked to a few other people who gave it a chance after being uninterested, and they also fell in love with it. -

Mon, October 27, 2008 - 7:02 PMI just finished this book today. I really enjoyed it. I haven't read The Virgin Suicides but did see the movie (shame shame, I know). After reading Middlesex, I definately want to read more of Jefferey Eugenides work.

Sun, August 30, 2009 - 5:36 PMI just finished this last night and loved it. Really well done, loved his presentation of adolescent sexuality. Thought Callie's transition was a little easier and enlightened than is realistic but overall was very impressed. -
